Clothworks American Made Solids Blog Tour! (and a giveaway!!)

Welcome to the Clothworks American Made blog tour!  I am day 12, practically the mid-point in the tour. One person/blog from each of the US states was chosen to represent their state's image in this tour.  In case you haven't seen these fabrics, they come in loads of pretty colors..

So, sit back and I will give you the short and skinny on my state...Maine.  Most people think that Maine is pretty cold, and they would be right, most of the time.  This winter was excruciatingly  brutal, lots of snow, etc.  I have come to greatly dislike the climate.  Though born here, I have only lived here for the last 18 yrs. I am much more of a southern gal at heart.  Things that are iconic to Maine include the gorgeous rocky coastline (certainly not our frigid beaches!), moose, wild lupines, blueberries, black flies -- just to name a few.

Perhaps you love to shop here...(I do!)
We like to go here and hike along the rocks and explore the tidal pools.  This is the Portland Headlight.
AND...the one last icon that I have not mentioned is what I chose to make my license place to represent Maine...you guessed it, the lobster.  I have clearly chosen the cooked variety, but isn't that what everybody comes to Maine for anyways??!

My block has a little free curved piecing, and some machine applique.  Those that know me know I am much more of a hand appliquer, but there was no way I was doing all those little pieces by hand!  Here's my sketch if anybody wants to try to reproduce this.  Sorry, he loaded sideways...
My Fabric Giveaway...
Leave me a message and tell me if you have ever been to my state...what was your favorite thing to see or do while you were here?  And could you possible stand the 60-100" of snow we get annually (heck no!!)?...On Saturday June 7th, I will draw a name and that person will be mailed one of Clothworks' fat quarter bundles of this fabric!  It is a fantastic offering, and they are giving away 50 of these - one for each state!  You can refer to the Clothworks link I gave above and follow the remaining state's blogs too for other chances to win this great fabric!

What a cute license plate! I've never been to Main, and as much as I love the snow, the older I get, the harder it is for me to handle the cold. So no, I could not handle your winter weather. LOl

Sounds like your house is lively. I have never been to Maine but have heard that it is truly beautiful from all who have. I do love lobster and will make it to your state to try it fresh soon. I have lived in Michigan all my life and know about the cold winters but last winter was the worst I remember in my more than 60 years. Love the Block. Elaine

I've never been to Maine, but I think when I finally visit, I will come in the summer. When I lived in the Midwest we would go to the lakes of northern minnesota in August to escape the summer heat. Now I'm near the VA & NC border and considering Maine the same way. Am I on the right track?

Julie said...

Never been to Maine. I moved from southern MN to TX to get away from the snow.

I love your block! I haven't ever been to Maine, but it's the one state I've wanted to visit since childhood. Books like Cranberry Thanksgiving, Blue Berries for Sal always captured my imagination and I wanted to visit. I got close once, but still haven't made. One day! I've lived in similar places and so I could probably tolerate the snow (maybe!) for the exchange of green!

I've never been to Maine, but here in northern Michigan we got way more than 100" of snow this past winter. Looking forward to those American Made Brand fat quarter bundles!

I was in Maine for the first time 3 weeks ago! We spent time in Wells Beach and York. Beautiful area. And delicious lobster. Love your block!

I have been to Maine as part of an East Coast honeymoon trip. I loved the quiet peaceful scenic beauty of Maine. And yes, I could deal with the snow.......I live in NW PA and we are affected by the "lake effect" snow coming off Lake Erie. I get a lot more sewing done in the winter, thanks to the snow.
Love your block!

I visited the rocky coast of Maine a couple times many years ago, ate one of those delicious lobster tails and promptly learned that I have an iodine allergy. No more lobster or other shellfish for me ... I'm experimenting on a whole cloth hand quilted sampler with one of the AMB fabrics - and loving it as it needles beautifully.

I've never been to Maine but would like to visit someday. I love the ocean, but could do without all that snow! Your block is great - thanks.

I love the state of Maine the coastal area is so beautiful but so is the inland it reminds me of being here in Oregon only more rugged. I truly can't wait to return there, the lobster is also a draw. :)

Love the lobster! We ordered Maine Lobster for my husband's birthday one year... yummy!

Maine is one of the few states I have not visited! If I ever get there, I will be sure to try lobster--for the first time in my life. As a rule, I do not eat "bottom feeders", but I recently read that lobsters generally eat better than regular bottom feeders, so I would be willing to give lobster a taste!

Rose said...

I love it all! The lupine, the coastline, the historic architecture and graveyards, the lighthouses, and of course the lobster. Last winter you kept me entertained with your complaints about the weather - a day after the same front had passed through here... Vermont.

Sewing Sue said...

Lobstah!! I've never been to Maine but I have eaten the lobster from there. I don't think we get as much snow as you do, but sometimes it's close, and your coastline is way wilder than ours in Wisconsin. I think I'd enjoy seeing it. Love your block.

I haven't been to Maine, but it does look like a beautiful place to visit. I am from Alberta, where we get a lot of snow every year as well, so I don't think the snow would bother me. Thanks!

Beautiful state and license plate! I don't believe I cold endure the cold winters in Maine. Here in Central Oregon we receive moderate snow followed by cold but sunny days. Would like to visit Maine and get some fresh Lobstah!

I have been to Maine 3 times and each time was in the summer. My ex-husband was born in Windham and still has family there. We went to the Cumberland Fair and enjoyed lobster rolls, lobster pasta and lobster dinners. Gotta love lobster. Also went to LL Bean and bought some jeans and shirts to take back home to Sonora, CA with us. Sonora is called the foothills. It is all about trees as you get higher into the mountains. Thank you for being a part of the AMB Blog Tour and the chance to win that awesome fabric. Your license plate is so darn cute. Can't wait to make one myself.

Yes, i have been to Maine many times and love lobsters and i have picked some blueberries. I made blueberry jam with the blueberries. Love your license plate.

Yes, I've been to Maine several times and loved everything about it--the scenic coast and beautiful drives through little towns from Portland to Bar Harbor, L.L. Bean, lobster, Acadia, Sarah Orne Jewett, John Gould, Henry Beston, Louise Rich, Rachel Carson, and on and on. We came once in the time of lilacs and that had to be the most glorious display I've ever seen or smelled. Heaven!

I was in Maine this time last year. I went to see my USCG son and family in Camden !! I dearly loved it but alas, he is off to Florida. I found a small Quilt Shop in Portland and the owner decided I was famous because I had just won in Paducah !! Wonder what she would think of you .... a local gal winning EVERYWHERE ?????

I've been to Maine a few times. Maine makes me think of taking my children to see Lenny the Chocolate Moose. That, and the coldest Christmas I ever experienced in Presque Isle.

Tamie said...

I have been to your state a few times but mainly along the coast. I live on the coast but way south and no I could not take your snow. I love the variety of lighthouses that you have.

Charlotta said...

Unfortunately, I've never yet been to Maine. But I sure would love to visit. And, no, I wouldn't have any idea what to do with all that snow, so when I come, it'll definitely be in the summertime. That'll suit me fine, because I do live in the South - which I find way too hot and humid - so I always love to escape to a cooler place in the summer, if at all possible.

HI Margaret,

I have been to Maine briefly-drove through it to go home to NFld. It was beautiful in the wooded areas that we drove through.
Thanks for the lobster pattern. Lots of lobsters, snow, moose and bugs where I grew up and live now.

I visited Maine when I was younger and I loved it! We get a fair amount of snow here in Wisconsin, but as I recall it may not be as brutally cold!

I live in MA so I go to Maine often. We like Portland and of course getting some good lobster.

Cute block even though I'm allergic to shellfish. I have never been to Maine and could definitely NOT stand that much snow. I live in SC and get kidded all the time because I have a heater beside my desk at work even in the summer. Thanks!

I live in the mtns of NC now, and we have quite enough snow for me, thank you very much. Lived in NJ for a while and worked for a great guy from Maine. He told us about Mt Blue State Park. We went camping there (in the summer) a couple of times and so enjoyed it! Enjoy your blog so much!

Hope this isn't a duplicate-- my comment vanished.

I used to visit a family farm in Maine as a child, but no idea where in Maine.

Always wanted to go back, but haven't yet.

Sadly, I've never been. However, last year my parents (in South Carolina) were reading an article about Maine and started talking about how they've never been. They booked tickets that day and left that weekend for a week of eating lobster and driving around the countryside. They absolutely loved it.Thanks for the opportunity!

No I have not been to Maine, and I can sure say no I could not stand all the snow you get in the winter time. I do think I would love to shop at that LL Bean though, that big boot is a hoot. I love your lobster, you did a great job.

Never have been to your state. But would like to. I am from Wisconsin, so am use to a lot of snow. But, not as much as you get. Those that live in northern Wisconsin get that much snow, but where I live we do not

I love your state :-) Maine has been a favorite of mine for decades..even though I have lived in California most of my life! I was thrilled to be a camp counselor at a camp on the Kennebec in the early 70's :-)
I love your license plate design!

I've been to Maine once, many years ago, and only for an overnight stay. I take that back. I have a vague recollection of visiting on a car trip with my grandparents, but that was even longer ago. On the more recent trip, we visited some antique stores and had dinner at a lobster place, but wasn't there long enough to do the touristy things. I love to go back again (in the summer) and spend more time.

I lived in Maine from 1974 to 1980. What a great place to grow up--I miss our place on the lake. My brother is still there, and is a Senator in the State legislature. Love your lobster--miss those too! But sorry, you can keep the snow!

I have never been to Maine. I hear it is beautiful. I love lobster. I love the look of the snow with everything all white, but I HATE the cold. So I live in Florida. But I would accept cold fabric from Maine. O_O

I love your plate! Being from RI, we get to Maine a few times between summer and fall. Usually we stop at LL Bean, then of course manage to hit a few great quilt shops. This summer planning on hitting the Maine quilt show in July. Donna (chavesdm@msn.com)

Thank you for the opportunity.
